JoJo’s World: Views on Tokyo Disneyland Bans

JoJo goes to Hollywood Studios to talk about Tokyo Disneyland’s ban on vlogging and to meet one of his favorite characters. He’s with his girlfriend Krista and the first thing JoJo wants to do is find out if Krista can use her Starbucks gift card inside a Disney park. Krista thinks she can’t, but JoJo thinks she can. Krista doesn’t want to actually use it yet, so JoJo just asks an employee if it’s usable, and he finds out it is.

After a brief stop at a pin trading station and JoJo saying he would like to do a video on the subject, the pair head to Red Carpet Dreams. Guests can meet Minnie and Sorcerer Mickey there. JoJo reiterates that Sorcerer Mickey is his favorites Disney character. This character meeting was suspended with Covid, but had returned some time ago. JoJo says he hasn’t “had the time” to see Sorcerer Mickey until now. He notes that it’s a 50 minute wait, but says. “It’s worth it.” Krista coldly echoes the statement and smirks.

While in the queue, JoJo goes into his reaction on the policy change at Tokyo Disneyland. He says the resort “has recently upgraded their policies and you can no longer record for professional use in the parks.” He goes on to say that he is confused by the policy: “Can I use my phone? Can I not use my phone? I mean I do it for YouTube, but am I a professional? Am I not a professional?”

For someone who has declared that they are a “full-time vlogger” and that it is their job, there shouldn’t be any confusion, but perhaps he wants it to seem like a grey area so he can try to get it away with vlogging there in the future.

Professional vlogger claims ignorance:

“How would you be able to differentiate who’s recording for family purposes or like just fun and someone who’s professionally recording for a news media team or a YouTube. Is YouTube professional? I don’t know.”

~ JoJo

On the possibility of the ban someday coming to Disney World or Disneyland, JoJo thinks not. He says there is a huge market for Disney videos on various media platforms, and it allows people to “get the magic” if they can’t afford to go to the parks all the time. On the other hand, he says he understands the issue of a vlogger holding a camera in front of the face of guest in line or on an attraction. He says he is respectful, and as an example, he points out that he uses a microphone so even if he sounds loud, he’s not really being that loud in a line (lol). JoJo says he does not want the ban repeated in other parks, so that he can travel and freely vlog.

JoJo and Krista eventually get to talk to Minnie and Sorcerer Mickey. Afterward, Krista says it was fantastic and it has energized her. JoJo tells her that now it’s time to ride his favorite ride and asks her if she knows what it is. She somewhat hesitatingly says Toy Story Mania, which readers of this blog will know is the correct answer. However, since it’s a 80 minute wait, JoJo decides to go to his favorite bar instead, Baseline Tap House. At the bar, JoJo says he normally gets the Golden Road or Stone Delicious drinks, but today he is getting the Michelada drink, plus the charcuterie board. However, he finds that he doesn’t like the Michelada, so the bar gives him one of his usuals to replace it.

JoJo makes more comments about the Tokyo ban. He says he understands guests having examples of bad experiences because someone doesn’t respect their space, or is “trying to make a weird video for TikTok”. He says that he tries his best as a content creator to be respectful (more lol): “I truly try my best as a content creator to respect everyone, respect the park. I don’t feel entitled. I don’t try to act entitled.” (beyond lol)

Since there is still a long wait for Toy Story Mania, they ride Star Tours, JoJo’s go-to ride when waits are long. After that, they watch the Disney Movie Magic projection show. By that time, the wait for TSM is 15 minutes and they get in the queue. Krista says she knows she can’t beat JoJo but he tells her to try. He does beat her, 261k to 190k. Afterward, they go into the gift store and discuss whether a Woody mug can be used for soup, cereal or SpaghettiOs. JoJo says his dad fed him SpaghettiOs a lot when he was a kid.

They end the video posing for a thumbnail photo.
