JoJo’s World: Tokyo Disneyland

On their first full day in Tokyo, JoJo and Jete go to Tokyo Disneyland. They could go by train or bus, but elect to use a taxi through the Uber app. During the taxi ride, JoJo shows his park ticket on his phone and says the cost is ¥8900 (currently, around $67).

When they arrive at the park, JoJo points to the park’s hotel and states that he and Jete will be staying there for a night. Still outside the park gate, they soak in the the thrill of just being there.

They enter the roofed area of the park called World Bazaar, which is similar to Main Street, USA. JoJo sees Cinderella Castle in the distance and notes how similar it is to Disney World’s. They go into the Emporium store to shop for a hat for Jete, who is feeling the cold temperature on his bare shaved head. They try on several oversized caps that are shaped like various characters, but we know from JoJo’s first livestream at the park that they end up getting the park exclusive, fluffy mouse ear caps.

As they walk around the hub in front of the castle, JoJo notes that Disneyland’s hub is tiny, Disney World’s is big, but Tokyo Disneyland’s is “massive”. They visit the Snow White Grotto near the castle and listen to the singing from the wishing well. Jete says, “That’s pretty cool.”

The first attraction they go to is actually inside the castle. It’s Cinderella’s Fairy Tale Hall, a walk-through attraction. As they enter, JoJo’s hot take is that Tokyo’s Cinderella Castle is better than Disney World’s. They do the walk, looking at the paintings and the dioramas. JoJo exclaims, “Cinderella’s castle’s it!”

Spontaneity:

“I have no idea about anything Tokyo Disneyland. I like being surprised even if that means I lose out on, like, fastpass, or there’s things I don’t realize that I miss on my vacation. It’s something special about just walking around and not knowing what to expect.”

~ JoJo

In Fantasyland, JoJo shows the exteriors of the Carousel, Mickey’s Philharmagic, Snow White’s Adventures, Alice’s Tea Party, and Queen of Hearts Banquet Hall. He shows a huge line for a popcorn stand that has “crazy“ flavors. He points out a difference between Magic Kingdom and Tokyo Disneyland: it does not have a Sword in the Stone. There’s a video insert of one of JoJo’s YouTube Shorts, showing his scripted reaction to not finding the Sword in the Stone there.

Jojo and Jete marvel how Belle from Beauty and the Beast has her own section in Fantasyland. He shows Belle’s house, and the castle where The Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast attraction is. They get a “fastpass“ for the attraction, for around $20, for later in the day.

Next, they get apple caramel churros from LeFou’s and they love them. Later, they go to Gaston’s Tavern for a meal. JoJo gets a beer with his food, and says, “It kind of tastes like a better Bud Light.” JoJo likes the attention to detail in the tavern and records a lot of the decorations.

After eating, JoJo and Jete go to watch the park’s parade, Dreaming Up! From their sitting position, JoJo explains that there are enforced sitting and standing areas for parade viewers. Jete says that their friend Gabby, who is working at the parks, told him that the biggest thing that she’s learned from being in Tokyo is that the people are very orderly. JoJo is excited about the parade and says, “Oh my god, Mickey’s killing it. Whoa, he’s speaking Japanese! I love it!”

As the parade continues by, JoJo tells viewers that he’s crying. JoJo always calls attention to himself crying, making sure that viewers realize that he is doing it. In this case, he even mentions it in the vlog title. In his post-trip narration, he layers it on, presumably wanting to convince viewers that the JoJo character he plays on camera is a sentimental person. He says he was moved by seeing the parade performers living their dream. Then, pulling the focus back to himself, as he regularly does, he repeats the claim that he was depressed in college and compares that to him living his dreams now.
