JoJo’s World: Hurricane Idalia

At JoJo’s apartment complex on the day Hurricane Idalia lands in Florida, there are heavy rains. JoJo lets viewers know though that the hurricane has passed. He looks at the Disney app and sees there are low attraction wait times at the parks, presumably due to the inclement weather. JoJo then decides to go to Disney’s Hollywood Studios to again vlog Disney World when it’s affected by a hurricane. “I cannot help but go to Disney World, only because I saw the app right now and wait times look abysmal at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Magic Kingdom, all the parks,” he explains.

Having been previously burned severely for using the aftermath of a hurricane to make content, JoJo upfront quickly goes through the motions of acknowledging the devastation Hurricane Idalia caused and he provides a link for viewers who may want to support victims. “I know we’re about to potentially have a fun day at Walt Disney World, but there are people whose lives have been affected by this hurricane and it’s no laughing matter. People have lost their homes, their personal possessions and potentially even their lives, so it’s truly devasting and you know, it’s not fun,” he states before going to Hollywood Studios to have fun.

As JoJo drives to Hollywood Studios, he states, “I think the brunt of the storm has literally passed” as he notes the clouds are moving quickly across the sky. At the park, he observes that the parking lot is “definitely not the normal crowds you get in the morning” and less busy than usual for that time of day. After going though security, JoJo says that a guard commented on his preparedness, “‘not a poncho, not an umbrella, not a care in the world.’”

Once inside, JoJo finds the park “doesn’t feel as dead as I think it would.” He assumes guests now realize it’s safe to be there. It’s still raining, so JoJo buys a $17 umbrella to cover himself and his camera. He states that he purchased it for his viewers and not for himself, so that he can provide quality video content despite the rainy weather conditions.

Spotting only a 10 minute wait at Red Carpet Dreams, JoJo heads in to meet Mickey Mouse and Minnie. Inside, JoJo compares his new umbrella to the one Minnie is holding, joking that hers looks “a lot cooler.” JoJo then greets Sorcerer Mickey, who pantomimes that he is the one magically making it rain outside with a spell. “Powerful wizard you are. Yensid would be proud,” JoJo replies.

When JoJo emerges, there are even less people walking around outside. At that point, he makes a plug for his sponsored Swan and Dolphin vlog, explaining that he wants viewers to watch it so he can provide good results for the sponsor, and potentially get future partnerships with them. Arriving at Grand Avenue, JoJo observes it’s looking “actually dead,” with only one “chilling” cast member visible.

JoJo continues on to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, making note of the smaller crowds compared to normal. Upon seeing Rise of the Resistance listed with a 55 minute wait time, he gets in the queue. However, he finds out the ride has down and he exits. Pausing to observe the rain effects in Galaxy’s Edge, he comments, “I find it interesting how the rain from Earth travels to Batuu.”

JoJo decides to ride Smugglers Run, utilizing the single rider line. He ends up being put on the ride by himself as the sole pilot and crew member. “I can’t blame anyone other than myself!” JoJo exclaims, realizing that with no gunners or engineers assisting, he alone controls the entire ship. Struggling to pilot the spacecraft single-handedly proves challenging. Despite his best efforts, JoJo receives an unexpectedly low score at the conclusion of the ride.

Over in Toy Story Land, JoJo rides Alien Swirling Saucers. As he exits the attraction, he notes none of the Toy Story characters are currently out to meet guests due to the weather. However, the Green Army Men suddenly emerge carrying their drums to put on an entertaining percussion performance and JoJo records it all.

Next, JoJo heads over to Pixar Place and visits Edna Mode, to get his current outfit critiqued. Edna indicates he should wear rain boots instead of flip flops. “My mom isn’t a fan of my flip-flops either,” JoJo remarks. He pinky promises Edna that next time he visits her, he’ll make sure to coordinate and look more put together.

JoJo runs into Chip and Dale outside the entrance to The Little Mermaid ride. He jokes that Dale should replace Ariel as the star of the show. When Dale does his Ariel impression, JoJo sings, “Someday I’ll be, part of that world!”

JoJo notes that Hollywood Studios tends to be a good park option when it’s raining, since there are a lot of indoor rides and activities to do. Despite the weather, ride wait times remain short – JoJo sees that The Tower of Terror only has a 30 minute wait posted.

Taking advantage of the low wait times, JoJo gets in the single rider line for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster and is able to walk right on. After getting off the thrill ride, he stops to buy one of his favorite snacks – a jalapeño cheese-stuffed pretzel.

As he walks around finishing his pretzel, JoJo again somberly acknowledges that parts of Florida sustained heavy hurricane damage and loss of life. He states that his thoughts and prayers go out to those badly affected communities.

By the time JoJo exits the park, the rain has picked up in intensity. He comments on the lucky timing of his park departure as he drives home in the downpour.
