JoJo’s World: HHN 2023 Preview

JoJo arrives at Universal Studios Orlando, excited for the upcoming Halloween Horror Nights event. He explains that evil wizards, the Death Eaters, will be casting spells in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. That’s new for Orlando this year.

JoJo describes Halloween Horror Nights as a late night event during the spooky season where Universal Studios is transformed into haunted houses and scare zones. Though initially hesitant to attend (because he doesn’t like getting scared), JoJo now enjoys the vibe, drinks, food, and haunted houses that the event offers. He recommends that everyone attend at least once.

Inside the park, JoJo previews several of the haunted houses and scare zones. The theming is focused on “Dr. Oddfellow”, described as the main antagonist. One of the zones that tell Dr. Oddfellow’s story is “Dark Zodiac”. JoJo says, “He has basically entered a dark dimension to harness the power of the zodiac and live forever. He twists the signs into malevolent beings who foretell your doom.”

Browsing in a store, JoJo talks about Halloween Horror Nights merchandise that he says has been on sale for months. He sees Chucky cotton candy and shirts with iconic houses printed on them. Looking around, JoJo says “They go hard on the merchandise, what can you say.” He also spots new merchandise, including a shirt with Dr. Oddfellow. JoJo notes this is not the only merchandise sold during the event, but the shirts he featured are some of the iconic shirts fans look for.

JoJo later shows another scare zone called Jungle of Doom. He describes it saying, “In the 1920s Dr Oddfellow ventured deep into the darkest jungle performing horrific experiments on nature. So basically they’ll be like jungle creatures trying to scare you behind these barrels and everything.” JoJo spots a gigantic spider prop in the zone and wonders aloud, “What did Dr. Oddfellow do to this jungle?”

Turning to general event info, JoJo notes that Halloween Horror Nights is “awesome” because the park stays open late into the night, until 2am, unlike normal park hours. He says this allows visitors to spend time in the parks at night when it is not as hot. On the topic of bringing children to the event, JoJo thinks it’s probably not a good idea, explaining. “I will say as much as I talk highly about this event, it is very intense, a lot of loud music, a lot of flashing lights.”

Later in the vlog, JoJo previews the Shipyard 32: Horrors Unhinged scare zone. He explains, “Enter 1940 San Francisco shipping yard full of mysterious crates and cages bearing Dr. Oddfellow’s symbol. Beware. His nightmarish oddities have now escaped, spreading fear and chaos in their wake.” It’s here that JoJo’s friend Jete gives JoJo an early jump scare by suddenly appearing. JoJo acknowledges to Jete, “You were my first scare!” JoJo goes to say that Jete, aka showmelovejete, will be a character in the scare zone. He’ll be playing Dr. Oddfellow’s pet.

One of the largest scare zones is called Vamp ’69: Summer of Blood. JoJo describes it as taking place at a 1960s music festival in a small New York town, where concertgoers jam out to popular bands until Dr. Oddfellow unleashes vicious vampires. JoJo walks through the zone, which is currently decorated like a normal music festival. He likes that it looks normal, as it plays into the story of vampires later being unleashed on the unsuspeccting audience.

JoJo and Jete look at the window displays at the tribute store, which have references to previous years’ Halloween Horror Nights themes and houses. They admire the detailed theming, with JoJo noting that referencing their own references from the past is “next level”. JoJo spots a Halloween Horror Nights board game, and not sure if it’s only a prop, says “I feel like people would want to get this. I’d get this so when Halloween Horror Nights is over, we could still pretend we’re doing Halloween Horror Nights.”

Jete says to viewers, “I don’t think people realize how insane Halloween Horror Nights is going to be this year. I think it’s going to break records. You need to get your tickets now!” JoJo lays out his plans to attend the first night of HHN in Orlando and go to Disneyland for the first night of Oogie Boogie Bash. After that, he’s not sure if he should go to the first night of HHN in California or go to the first night of Busch Gardens Halloween event in Florida. He explains, “There is something to be said about making content and posting and being one of the first group of content creators when it’s hype and everything.”

Jete concludes the vlog by saying, “Halloween Horror Nights is going to be sensational, phenomenal, fantastic.”
