JoJo’s World: Haircut and DCP Q&A

JoJo Crichton with new haircut

JoJo decides it’s time to get a haircut and he drives to the salon. With him is Jete, who will be the cameraman for the vlog. JoJo explains to viewers that not only is he making this vlog to show what he does when he’s not at the park, he’s going to use the opportunity also to do a Q&A about the Disney College Program (DCP).

JoJo has done many vlogs before in which he discusses the DCP. They must keep getting views to explain why he keeps returning to this subject that he has already covered exhaustively .

JoJo explains that the DCP allows college students to work at Disney for 4 to 12 months. He reminds viewers that he left a master’s degree program to do the DCP to become a custodial cast member. JoJo points out that a custodian is different from an ordinary janitor in that custodians get to interact with guests and “make magic”.

DCP Endorsement:

“End of the day, the Disney College Program is an awesome experience and it really just grows you as a person, even if, like, you don’t stay and you, or you, leave early, you will learn something about yourself and that’s the most like valuable thing that I think I’ve ever gained from the College Program.”

~ JoJo

Jete reads off questions that people have sent to JoJo online. One is about must-do DCP activities. JoJo replies going to the parks with co-workers, and if 21+, doing the monorail bar crawl. Jete adds that people should “see all the shows”, and JoJo agrees.

JoJo lived at Vista Way apartments during his DCP, but it’s closed now. Today participants live at the new Flamingo Crossings, which JoJo feels jealous about.

For DCP phone interview tips, JoJo says, “do your research” and have questions ready to show your interest. Jete says to just be yourself. JoJo confesses he had forgotten when his phone interview was and so unintentionally went drinking beforehand. That suggests that he did it while under the influence, like he does with some of his vlogs.

JoJo and Jete arrive at the Salon Lofts in the Dr. Phillips area. JoJo is already late for the appointment, and didn’t tell his stylist Juan ahead of time that he would be vlogging. Once in the chair, JoJo tells Juan he got his last haircut on a cruise ship and isn’t happy with the “bowl cut”. He wants it shorter and “not a bowl cut.”

JoJo continues to answer questions while his stylist is working. About the cost of living, JoJo says the DCP is not expensive but participants need to budget their money.

He shares that DCP nightlife includes Señor Frogs on Tuesdays, line dancing at Cowboys on Thursdays, and Jellyrolls on Sunday, a custom which JoJo is trying to bring back.

Regarding continuing college, JoJo says participants don’t take college classes as part of the program, they just work 40+ hours per week.

After his haircut is complete, it’s time for JoJo to get his eyebrows waxed. He says, “There’s no shame in men getting eyebrows done. It makes you look good.” He gets his brows overdone.

Returning to the Q&A, JoJo states, “The biggest thing about custodial is that it gives you a lot of freedom, like a lot of freedom. Don’t abuse that freedom. I never did. Never.” JoJo smiles broadly, suggesting he knows that’s not true.

After working enough hours, Disney College Program cast members can get family members into the parks for free. JoJo shares that his sister was upset when he left Disney because she would no longer get free entry.

It took JoJo 13 character role auditions before he finally was cast as a character performer. Based on his experience, JoJo has witnessed many successful relationships and even marriages come out of the he Disney College Program. Reflecting on his own role as a custodial cast member, JoJo says the highlights were guest reactions and seeing empty parks at night after they close.

Concluding the Q&A, JoJo says that if the vlog gets 3000 Likes, he will get his hair colored whatever color is most liked in the comments. Jete suggests pink, which macho JoJo clearly does not like.

After the haircut, JoJo and Jete get sushi “happy hour.” In less than a week they are going to Japan, so JoJo tells Jete he needs to get better at using chopsticks.
