JoJo’s World: First Class to Tokyo

JoJo and his friend Jete begin their journey to Japan at JoJo’s apartment, where JoJo explains that he’ll be traveling in first class and Jete will be flying coach. JoJo’s girlfriend Krista drives them to the airport. When they arrive, they have forty minutes left until boarding starts. Right away, the difference in class of service is apparent. JoJo gets to check-in at the Delta Sky Priority counter, while Jete has to get in the regular line.

After check-in, JoJo goes to check out the Delta Sky Club. JoJo shows the food and beverage options (he takes an apple) plus the other amenities. He says it’s only his second time in an airport lounge, the other being in Hawaii. He thinks the one in Orlando is much nicer. JoJo returns to Jete at the gate and rubs it in how nice it is.

For the flight from Orlando to Atlanta, JoJo is in the coach section, with Jete. The flight is uneventful until they get to Atlanta. JoJo ominously notes that the plane is still taxing to the gate, but their flight to Tokyo has already started boarding. He says the boarding ends at 9:45am and the current time is 9:14am. They get off the plane with less than 15 minutes to go. That starts the race to the gate, as JoJo and Jete run through the Atlanta airport to make their flight. They have to take the train to get to the right terminal, but somehow they manage to get to their gate in time. JoJo is worn out from the run and the stress. It’s been a while since he ran cross country in school.

In first class, JoJo shows the “Delta One suite” that he’ll be traveling in, and also the amenities that go with it. The flight takes off, JoJo puts on the complimentary slippers, and settles in. He masters the controls for the seating positions and shows what the full recline looks like. Later on, he visits the restroom with his camera, and when he returns to his seat, he records other passengers looking at him with daggers. Presumably it’s for being obnoxious and disrespectful for recording them without their permission (he didn’t state he had recorded them with their permission). The video was posted on YouTube with no blurring of their faces.

The same now, but more appreciative:

“Actually I did go on first class once, coming home from Disney World, but I was so, like, spoiled and annoying that, like, I couldn’t enjoy first class. My parents were trying to make me feel better, but I was just pissed I was leaving Disney, like anyone would. But I was like being a real brat about it.”

~ JoJo

Throughout the flight, JoJo indulges in the snacks, meals and beverages provided to him. He’s have an after-dinner ice cream when Jete interrupts for a visit. Jete says his experience is good because he has a row to himself and JoJo goes back with him to Economy to check it out. JoJo tell him that he doesn’t feel as bad for leaving him behind in coach.

Back in his seat, JoJo cycles through napping, eating, drinking, and watching movies. When eating, he is given chopsticks but is not able to readily use them. As the flight is about to end, JoJo says he has had a good experience on board, however, he is a little concerned about what could happen when they arrive, since there have been issues along the way and in Tokyo they’ll be on their own to figure things out.
