JoJo’s World: Dubai McDonald’s

JoJo and Jake leave the Dubai Mall, having just wrapped up the previous JoJo’s World vlog. JoJo announces the theme for this vlog: sampling every item on the menu at a Dubai McDonald’s. They park their vehicle near the Ritz Carlton hotel in the JBR (Jumeirah Beach Residence) area and stroll along “The Walk,” the main street of JBR that’s lined with eateries and shops. They see various restaurants along the way, but eventually realize the McDonald’s restaurant is back near the Ritz-Carleton.

At the McDonald’s, they use the order kiosk to order one of everything on the menu (well, some of the things on the menu), a process that proves time-consuming. The total comes to 352 AED, roughly equivalent to $95 USD. Receiving their order in three large sacks, they carry them back to their hotel room to start the food review.

First up, JoJo tries the McRoyale burger. Jake asks, “What’s so royal about the McRoyale?” JoJo’s response is simple: “It’s good, it tastes like a burger.” Next, they sample the McChicken sandwich, which JoJo finds a little dry. They decide to use a ranking system for the items, using C, B, A, and S tiers. Both the McRoyale and McChicken earn a “B” tier ranking.

They move on to the chicken tenders paired with curry sauce. Jake observes, “It doesn’t taste like a chicken nugget, it tastes like a chicken tender.” The curry sauce elevates the chicken tenders to an “A” rank. The fries, however, are a disappointment. They seem to have less salt, are not as crispy as their U.S. counterparts, and might be fried in a different oil. They receive a “C” rank.

The BBQ Chicken Snack Wrap is next. JoJo comments on the overpowering onion flavor, while Jake thinks there’s too much sauce. It’s ranked “C” tier. The Spicy Chicken Snack Wrap, with jalapeno, fares better in JoJo’s opinion, earning a “B” rank.

The Grand Chicken sandwich is up next, which Jake describes as “a McChicken on steroids.” They then sample the Filet-O-Fish, which tastes identical to the U.S. version, and it gets a “B” rank. The Chicken McNuggets are a letdown, especially when paired with a different-tasting barbecue sauce. JoJo rates them “C”, while Jake is slightly more generous with a “B”.

The Veggie Surprise and Veggie Deluxe burgers are next. JoJo remarks, “This is probably the most iconic, like specific thing that I’ve tried so far. This tastes like it’s from here.” They both appreciate its uniqueness and rank it “A”. The Little Tasty and Big Tasty burgers follow, with Jake not being a fan of the special sauce that is supposed to make it “tasty”. He gives it a “C”.

They have set of bowl items, and the first is the chicken rice bowl, which is just cut up chicken tenders over rice. JoJo suggests it might be improved with some sauce and gives it a “B” rank. The chicken teriyaki bowl does come with sauce, and JoJo likes the teriyaki sauce by itself. JoJo gives it a “B”, but Jake says, “Like, just get your rice and chicken elsewhere. Don’t go to McDonald’s for this.”

The beef rice bowl they find kind of appalling. It’s a burger patty topped with mushrooms laying on a bed of rice. JoJo is surprised that it’s just a whole, plain burger: “You think they could have chopped it up a little bit.” JoJo states it’s the “ugliest thing I’ve seen,” and Jakes admits, “I don’t know if I want to eat this.” They both agree there’s no reason to order it, giving it a “C” rank.

The McArabia Chicken, pita bread wrapped around two grilled chicken patties, is an “A” rank. They both agree it’s the best item they’ve tasted so far. JoJo says, “If I ever come back to McDonald’s again in Dubai, I’m ordering that for sure.”

The next turn to some “Signature” food items. Despite not liking mushrooms, JoJo tries the Signature Mushroom Chicken burger, and exclaims that, “There’s a lot happening in my mouth right now. There’s a lot of flavor.” He gives it a “B” rank, while Jake rates it an “A”. The Signature Spicy Crunchy Beef burger, with its crunchy onions, is next. JoJo states, “I think Americans would love this.” Jake gives it a “B” rank.

They then sample pineapple sticks, which Jake thinks taste canned. A brief interlude follows where they discuss drawing attention from a security guard at McDonald’s due to their extensive order. They then try the macarons, which JoJo finds comparable to boutique bakery ones. Jake suggests sharing a macaron “Lady and the Tramp” style, with him holding it in his mouth. However, JoJo immediately jerks away, exclaiming, “No! We’re not doing that!”

They finish up with the Chicken McWings. Despite being cold from being one of the last things eaten, the wings are considered delicious and the two wish they were available at McDonald’s in America.

JoJo is “tapped out” and ready to sleep and so he concludes the vlog.
