JoJo’s World: Bye Splash Mountain and Hello Ariel

JoJo is upset as he begins his vlog at Magic Kingdom, lamenting his failure to book a Lightning Lane reservation for Splash Mountain’s last day. “I am so upset with myself. I literally had one job,” he exclaims, explaining how he overslept and missed the opportunity to book the ride. He had planned to go on it today since he is staying at a Disney resort, which allows booking Lightning Lane 2 hours before other guests.

As he enters the park, JoJo notes that the Splash Mountain music that usually plays at the entrance has been removed. He then watches the Festival of Fantasy parade, reminiscing about working as a custodian at Magic Kingdom and watching the parade. “I used to watch Happily, not Happily, well Happily Ever After, but Festival of Fantasy every day in the heat when I was a custodial,” he recalls.

JoJo shows that he has dressed in blue to represent “the water” for Splash Mountain’s last day. “Look, I dressed up in the theme of Splash Mountain,” he says amusedly. He also mentions that he has vlogs he’ll post while on his trip to Japan, so that he continues to post a steady stream of content.

JoJo gets a surprise call from his friend Nick, who’s also in the park. They ride the PeopleMover together with Nick’s friends Sam and Kevin. Nick expresses his disappointment about Splash Mountain’s departure, conjecturing that the new Princess and the Frog ride likely won’t open for another 4 years. “It’s gonna take a long time,” Nick says, which JoJo brushes off with, “Yeah, yeah, we’ll see.”

After PeopleMover, JoJo goes to see Ariel at her meet and greet in Ariel’s Grotto, where she hasn’t been for over 2 years. JoJo has a good time and declares, “That was definitely my favorite meet and greet of 2023.” He also meets Peter Pan and gets advice on pulling the sword from the stone. Peter reveals the secret, saying, “Use pixie dust.” He also shares that Tinkerbell doesn’t like going to Splash Mountain because she gets her wings wet.

JoJo heads to Splash Mountain and records the long queue and crowd for the ride’s last day. He finds vloggers Justin Scarred and Adam the Woo after they had ridden it twice already. Adam recounts the story of how over a decade ago he took Justin to ride on Splash Mountain for Justin’s first time.

JoJo notes that the ride has had a 200 minute wait all day for standby. However, JoJo doesn’t have to wait that long since is let into the Lightning Lane by a cast member to whom JoJo told his story of failing to buy a Lightning Lane that morning. JoJo disingenuously says he didn’t ask for the special treatment, knowing it’s that kind of story that could get a cast member to “make some magic”.

The emotional ride on Splash Mountain is filled with nostalgia and reflection. JoJo notes that the ride seems darker, and some animatronics aren’t working. He recalls a memory of an animatronic turtle without a shell, saying, “One time I saw the turtle right here. It didn’t have a shell on. It just had a weird like robotic body. They shut down the whole ride because it was really odd and strange.” The final ride ends with JoJo and his friends getting wet and their experience captured on one last attraction photo.

The vlog concludes with JoJo expressing his mixed feelings about the closing of Splash Mountain. He acknowledges the sadness but also looks forward to the new Princess and the Frog ride. “Goodbye Splash Mountain, I will miss you, but I’m also excited for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure,” he says.
