JoJo’s World: Athens and Flight to Paris

This is the eighth and final vlog in JoJo’s vlog series about traveling to Greece and going on the “MerMaiden” voyage of Virgin Voyages’ ship Resilient Lady.

In this vlog, Jete and JoJo have finished their cruise on the Resilient Lady and are now sitting at the port in Piraeus. There, JoJo tells viewers they have a day to spend in Athens before their flight to Paris. He asks Jete what they’re going to do, and Jete replies, “We’re gonna see some history, dude. There’s a lot of history in Athens, a lot of Greek mythology stuff.”

The travel from the port to their Airbnb, but isn’t ready yet, so they take the opportunity to have lunch. Waiting for the food and drinks, JoJo says he’s not sure how many restaurants and clubs will be open that night because that day is an election day in Greece. While Jete is interested in exploring history, JoJo’s focus is on the culture exploration, particularly places to drink.

After eating, they drop their stuff on at the Airbnb. Jete finds the first of two issues: JoJo had booked a place with only one bed, and since JoJo won’t sleep in a bed with another guy, one of them will have to sleep on the floor. The other issue is that there are no charging ports or electrical adapters in the room, so they have no way of charging anything. “All of a sudden, battery has become very, very, very important,” JoJo laughs. However, to make up for it he finds “something that is really cool”: a bottle of wine. Since it’s already midday, JoJo says he’s going to drink it.

Eventually, they head out to explore the city. Jete says they are going to the “archipelago, where the first Olympic Games was held.” Later, it’s seen that he meant the Acropolis, where the first Olympic Games were not held. They walk to the area but prioritize climbing Areopagus Hill to see the view rather than immediately going up to see the Acropolis. By the time they get their ticket and get to the Acropolis, they have less than an hour to view the Parthenon and other structures. “Typical Jete and JoJo excursion,” says JoJo.

As they leave, they descend toward the Plaka neighborhood, but keep walking until they get to Monastiraki. There they have dinner at a rooftop restaurant with a view of the Acropolis. JoJo likes his meal, saying, “The food in Greece does not disappoint.”

With dinner taken care, the next thing on the list is to find an electrical plug adapter so they can use their chargers. JoJo is optimistic about finding one. “We’re in the city; it shouldn’t be too hard to figure it out,” he says. They actually have a hard time finding one, although JoJo doesn’t mind. “I absolutely just love being thrown into the chaos and having no idea where we are,” he explains. They do find a little mart that happens to have two adapters for sale and JoJo and Jete are able to use them to recharge their phones and stuff.

Problem solved, JoJo and Jete decide to go back out and check out the Athens nightlife. JoJo is unsure of what to expect, given that it’s both a Sunday and Election Day in Greece. He speculates that the locals might be watching the election results, but it turns out that the streets are still busy. While they’re out, JoJo marvels at the enhanced beauty of the city and the Acropolis from being lit at night.

JoJo and Jete meet up with Victoria and Kiara at some point, after having met them earlier in the day at the Acropolis. With these “new friends”, JoJo says he had a “fun” evening and Jete describes it as “phenomenal”. Apparently, the foursome made a pact to get matching tattoos on JoJo and Jete’s next visit to Greece. At 2 am decides he has had enough and must go to bed but says his flight to Paris is in only three hours and he’s “getting no sleep”.

At 4 am, JoJo and Jete are outside their lodging, waiting for a ride to the airport. JoJo is visibly tired, a result of his decision to stay out late. It’s a practice he usually and irresponsibly does when he has travel plans early the next morning. “It’s 4 am in the morning and we’re going to the airport because we’re flying to Paris from Greece. I am so tired,” he admits. They get to the airport at 4:50 am, and JoJo says his boarding time is 6 am. He tells viewers, “If I miss my flight, I wouldn’t even be surprised. I’m just so, like, I’m so tired. Definitely should have not gone out before our flight, but so worth it.” He didn’t vlog his time with the girls, so we don’t know what made it so “worth it”.

JoJo tells Jete, “Hopefully, I see you in Paris,” as Jete goes off to board a different flight. JoJo finds his gate, but says, “I am on such a low level of functioning right now. It’s concerning.”

JoJo’s flight is on Transavia Airlines. He describes the airline as like “Spirit, because you have to buy all your luggage and stuff.” Despite this, he finds the flight comfortable and spacious, allowing him to sleep throughout the trip.

JoJo lands in Paris and takes an Uber to his Airbnb. The ride to his Airbnb is an hour-long journey, giving him his first glimpse of France. Upon arriving at his Airbnb, JoJo does a short tour, but quickly ends the vlog because he’s so tired. His final messages is that, “At the end of the day, most of the things that happened to me that are bad is because of me. I should have just gone to bed. We should have not made new friends.” However, he shows that he nevers learns his lesson, by adding “But I’m glad we did.”
