JoJo’s World: A Taste of Paris

JoJo and Jete (aka showmelovejete) visit the center of Paris for a second day. JoJo explains, “We are going back to Paris. We had so much fun the first time, that we need to get a better taste of it.” He aims to try more wine and possibly climb the Eiffel Tower.

They have a checklist for their day in Paris and it starts with getting a croissant for Jete. JoJo finds a café he likes called Le Beer Station that has croissant on the menu. Jete gets his croissant and JoJo orders a very large glass of Grimbergen Blanche beer. JoJo says it’s the largest beer he’s ever ordered. It starts off what appears throughout the vlog to be a tipsy day for JoJo.

Next they explore a street filled with food spots, restaurants, and bars, looking for another place to eat at. They decide on another café, La Flamme, selecting it based on it being adorned with flowers. JoJo orders wine and a charcuterie board, which was on his checklist. He appreciates the quick service, noting “If you know what you want, they will get it to you. Like the fact that we sat down and ordered everything already in under five minutes is insane.” JoJo visits the unisex bathroom downstairs, which as an American he finds interesting.

Back on the street, JoJo brings up the subject of being considered gay, as he has done so many times before: “The one thing about Jete and I being here together, eating together, hanging out, a lot of people are assuming that we’re a couple, which is not a bad thing. But especially for me, it’s all good. I’m not really out here looking for love. Jete is. So apparently I’m making it a little bit harder for him.” JoJo makes the point of saying “it’s all good,” which is belied by him talking about it so often.

As they walk along, JoJo says he just wants to drink wine, but dismissively says Jete wants to go on a boat tour or do activities. Jete agrees that JoJo mostly just wants to drink a lot.

JoJo gets his wish to drink more when they stop at a café name Le Marceau. Jete gets a martini and JoJo orders champagne. JoJo refers to the stop as part of their own little bar crawl, where they stop at “any bar that has like colorful roses and nice lighting.”

JoJo gets a little more enlivened with all the drinking he has been doing, and starts to soften towards Jete’s wish to do the boat ride. Jete tells him the boat will have alcohol and JoJo frankly says, “That’s all I care about, just the drinks.”

They decide on a 14 euro, hour-long boat tour along the Seine. JoJo and Jete enjoy views of the city from the river, like the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame Cathedral, while also watching Parisians dancing and relaxing by the water.

After the boat ride, they wander in search of dinner. They eat at a place near the Eiffel Tower, Le Bailli de Suffren, where JoJo orders espresso martini and French onion soup, and Jete gets a crepe. It must be noted that this place has incredibly bad reviews on Yelp for being a tourist trap that rips people off. No mention on the vlog if JoJo and Jete had the kind of experiences mentioned in the reviews.

After dinner, they search for a bar that would give them a view of the illuminated Eiffel Tower. Failing that, they sit on the grounds to look at the tower and to wait for the lights to twinkle. They end their wait before the twinkling, by saying that they have decided they would rather come back with their significant others to view it. JoJo says they want to “save some of the magic.”

Looking for a place to continue drinking, JoJo and Jete go to a hidden underground speakeasy called No Entry, hidden inside the Pink Mamma restaurant. They find their way inside and JoJo says, “It’s pretty cool. Kind of romantic. I don’t know how I feel,” referring again to him and Jete being considered a couple. Jete, clearly tired of the discussion, says, “Here we go again.”

Finally, they end up at Le Carrousel, a bar with a connection to Josephine Baker. There they learn about her trailblazing history from an eager bouncer. They spend the rest of their evening there, staying until it closed.

JoJo wraps up his adventures in Paris by thanking viewers for their support.

[4/5]  It’s not a day in Paris that would be expected for a person to want to do on their first trip to the city and with only two days to see it all, but it does provide a good view of JoJo’s priorities when traveling.
